Areas of Focus

The Plymouth Foundation is strategic in its support of economic development.
Our intent is to concentrate our time, energy and resources in three key areas.

According to the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Office of Advocacy, there are 30.7 million small businesses in the U.S. Additionally, small businesses with fewer than 500 employees account for 99.9% of all US businesses. Sadly, 20% of all small businesses fail in their first year.

The Plymouth Foundation is fully committed to the American Planning Association’s stated purpose around land use planning: Further the welfare of people and their communities by creating convenient, equitable, healthful, efficient, and attractive environments for present and future generations.

Plymouth Foundation works closely with the Economic Development Agency (EDA) to develop an understanding of what entrepreneurs need to foster and grow their business ideas. Vibrant communities celebrate and promote arts and culture in ways that encourage creative expression from a variety of perspectives and through multiple media. The Plymouth Foundation works to encourage and promote artists and their work. The Foundation also helps create new opportunities like are collaborative effort to discover Plymouth’s Poet Laureate.

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts takes workforce development seriously. It recently launched a statewide initiative to address the gap between available jobs and skilled workers to fill them. Employers can work with training partners to access workforce funding programs. The Plymouth Foundation can provide more details on this initiative.
